It is too freakin' hot! I have to subject the members of my household to witnessing me going about my business sans pants! It's supposed to be autumn here for Pete's sake. It keeps raining on and off, on and off, and yet still, the god-awful, oppressive HEAT - oh, the humidity! :(
And I had to go vote in the state elections today. Note, "had to". As in, they slap you with a monster fine or jail time if you don't. Yeah, our idea of democracy is slightly skewed. Anyway, I voted for the Greens party - whee! Tree-hugging hippies, with out-and-proud gay senator! They'll never win for state premier, but hopefully their candidate for my local area's MP will. Either way, I can sleep at night knowing that if the goddamn Liberals (aka right-wing, wannabe-George Bushes, keeping the rich rich, and the poor poor) win, that I had nothing to do with it. And if Labour (the other main party) wins again... well they've done a shit job so far, but even they're better than the Liberal party. (Gee - can ya tell I'm left wing? LOL. Down with Howard!)
Wow - that was passionate for someone who usually doesn't give a crap about politics. I think I just got annoyed by the guy at the polls who tried to get me to vote for the Shooters Party. Their slogan was something like, "Stop the Greens from killing NSW!" And I'm like, "Save the state by giving everyone easier access to guns? I don't think so."
Seriously, what's that quote? Fighting for peace is like eating meat for vegetarianism? Some people just need a mighty thwack with the good ol' Bat of Logic and Commonsense.

In my country there's a perimeter around the polling stations where campaigning is forbidden on election day. If someone wears party symbols or tries influencing others, a complain should be lodged at the National Election Committee.
When are you guys going to oust Howard ? All his fellow-Bush-supporters got the axe or are going in that direction:
in Spain, Aznar lost to Zapatero; that clown Berlusconi
lost in Italy to Prodi; Blair is losing local elections and ground; our former PM here, Barroso, fled to Brussels, to be
President of the European Commission and the next year his party lost the national elections.

Yeah, it's pretty standard to have supporters of every party standing outside with their posters and pamphlets, although their job is mostly just to hand out instructions on how to vote for them - which is needed, as our ballots are as confusing as hell.

ASAP, God willing. I'm not sure when the next federal election is, but hopefully that'll be when he gets the boot. I still can't believe he got voted in again last time - we've elected him PM three times, it's insane. It's all the damn rich yuppies, and senior citizens, and conservative Christians who vote for him - all of whom are completely clueless about what bad shape the country is in.

Date: 2007-03-25 08:54 pm (UTC)And yeah, you're right: Mother Nature's having its annual nervous breakdown over here as well. It should be the beginning of spring...and it already feels like summer. I swear to Christ, it hasn't snowed ONCE throughout the entire winter the past year, whereas past winters you'd have tons of snow.

LOL - doesn't happen too often, does it? I'll admit I'm fairly apathetic for the most part, but so is most of Australia. It's probably a good thing voting is compulsary here, otherwise nobody would do it.
