This Valentine's Day, remember that the most important relationship you will ever have is the one you have with yourself. Honestly, I can't think of anybody I'd rather hang out with than me 😉.

Also, this is random, but damnthey used make some fucked-up Valentine's cards back in the day 😨.

That card is something else. I imagine it's the kind of Valentine that Chris would've given to Toby. Heh.

Several years ago, my mother stumbled upon a stack of old valentines that she'd received back in grade school (so we're talking late 1940s or early 1950s). Most of them were quaint and very cute. But I remember two of them were jaw-droppingly racist, one with a little black girl and another with a Native American. I tried to think how those were different times, but they still floored me.

So much vintage stuff carries themes of racism and sexism that I find so crazy, because relatively speaking, the 40s/50s/60s really weren't that long ago, and yet we have come so far in terms of what is considered acceptable and what isn't. I just hope that 50 years from now, people can look at the bullshit that's going on today and marvel at how far they've come.
