Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp

Last night I binged-watched all 8 episodes of the Netflix series follow-up to Meloni's 2001 movie, 'Wet Hot American Summer'. Much like the original movie, this 'prequel' series kind of goes back and forth between genuinely giggle-inducing jokes and rolling your eyes at how dumb it is - leaning more towards the roll-your-eyes side. Meloni, as usual, gave a great performance; you could tell just how much fun he was having with it, and loving the ridiculous wig he wore throughout most of it.
His character, Gene, was hilariously absurd in the original movie, so I have to admit I wasn't a fan of his 'backstory' as it's presented in the prequel - I would've much rather watched Gene fondling sweaters and dry-humping the fridge for 8 episodes than watched 'Jonas' (his assumed identity before he's forced to recover his memories of being Gene) being ridculously wholesome. Not that Meloni wasn't funny doing that - he really was - but, meh, I liked Gene better.
Anyhoo, if you're a fan of the original movie, then you'll probably like this series. If, like me, you found the movie more stupid than funny, you'll likely find the series even stupider. If you only want to watch it for Meloni, then I recommend waiting for the inevitable YouTube compilations of Meloni's scenes, rather putting yourself through watching the whole thing.
Also, if you're a giant perve like me and was hoping for another Bradley Cooper gay sex scene? Trѐs disappointment. One kiss in 8 episodes - let down! ;-P
